Leaving Seville we endured a very hot 40 degree drive to Madrid, stopping at Merida en route to see some amazing Roman ruins there. At this time of year they have nightly performances in the Teatro - currently it's Medusa.
Madrid reminded us a little of Paris, but smaller. The buildings are very grand, there are beautiful fountains, art galleries. lots of parkland and wide boulevards. We stayed at the 'Only YOU Boutique Hotel' https://www.onlyyouhotels.com/en/hotels/only-you-boutique-hotel-madrid/ which had a hip, cool vibe and there was reserved parking nearby. We often found the parking spaces in Spain to be VERY short, with Mr F anxious that MoneyPenny's nose might get bumped - but it didn't! The Museo Prado is well worth visiting. Visits to art galleries are payback to me for all the car museums... hehe
As you can see from the map, we are making our way home. We stopped overnight in Burgos (an apartment with a much-needed washing machine). Our host fell in love with MoneyPenny, taking photos and sending them to her family and friends. She had a secure parking space just one minute from our accommodation and owns several properties in Burgos. Here is her Instagram link if you'd like to stay sometime. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzrZBJUtEIj/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet The cathedral in Burgos is beautifully restored and worth a visit if you are passing through.
To end our time in Spain we stopped in for some beach-time and Pintxos at San Sebastian. The Hotel Londres is famous for its Belle Epoque history and we hit up our step counts while MoneyPenny rested in the nearby carpark. https://hlondres.com/en/
On our way to Calais we'll stop in Biarritz, Bordeaux, Amboise and Rouen before putting MoneyPenny back on Le Shuttle to rest and recover in the UK after over 3,000 miles on this trip. Apart from the radiator hose incident earlier in our trip, she's been a great car and a good friend over the past 6 weeks. We're already planning the next adventure with her!
We’re in awe! Monneypenny’s so well looked after and she responds. So enjoyed your ’trip’. What an adventure- and more tba. Loved. N+Pxx
