DB7 Andalusian Adventures: Schlumpf, the French Riviera and Getting to Spain

We are about to start an amazing road trip around Spain over the next few weeks. We've already been on the road for a few weeks. I've been to a conference in Lausanne and we've had some time in the south of France relaxing and working remotely. While I was at the conference, Mr F stopped off at Mulhouse to view the Schlumpf Collection. https://www.musee-automobile.fr/en/ . What a shame that I missed out on that (not!). He says the best thing was seeing over 130 Bugattis in the same place - including two 'Royales'. You can purchase a three museum pass - The National Automobile Museum, The City of Trains https://www.citedutrain.com/?lang=en and the Electropolis Museum https://www.musee-electropolis.fr/en. Mr F just visited two of these. He says that the train museum was the biggest he had ever seen and that was an added bonus. If you allow more time in your stopover here, you could do all three. Mr F recommends the Bristol Hotel which has underground parking. We always love that for MoneyPenny!

Leaving Lausanne we drove straight to Avignon where we spent two nights enjoying the lively festival that runs each July. There are street performers and many actors promoting their shows with small A5 flyers and larger posters around the town. They sing, perform acrobatics and play music in costumes all day and there's nothing better than sitting in a cafe or bar enjoying the feast of entertainment going by. We stayed in a small apartment near Les Halles in the old town centre. It was lovely and quiet and we could walk everywhere. However, like most old walled cities in Europe, and particularly with the road closures for the Festival, we had to put MoneyPenny in one of the numerous underground parking stations just outside the city wall. This was secure and she rested there for two nights. It costs around 40 euros per day in most of these carparks, so you need to factor in that extra cost. We thoroughly recommend stopping at the covered market (Les Halles) and having a fresh seafood lunch. The oysters, prawns and sea-snails were delicious so easily washed down by a glass or two of champagne!

The French Riviera is one of our favourite places and we rented an AirBnB apartment in Saint Tropez for a week. It was well located just near Parc Des Lices and had a parking space in the basement! Happy Days for MoneyPenny, although it was a tight spot and required quite a bit of back and forth to get her in there. We soaked up some sun on the beach, ate delicious food and I stocked up on shoes and clothes (Hehehe).

Before leaving for Spain we found a carwash at the hypermarket near Cogolin and gave MoneyPenny a good wash. Luckily we had some 1 and 2 Euro coins because the credit card token machine had been vandalised and was not available. After checking out of the AirBnB we drove to Girona as our first stop in Spain. When I plotted out our journey back in our kitchen in Sydney this was supposed to be a five hour drive.......NINE hours later we arrived, thanks to lots of holiday traffic between Marseilles and Narbonne. On my next post I'll tell you all about our first day in Spain and the beginning of our Andalucian Adventure.
