After leaving Dublin, we took a very comfortable drive up the motorway to Belfast and spent the afternoon at the Titanic Quarter. This was a really great experience and we also stayed at the Titanic Hotel in the refurbished offices of Harland and Wolf. Highly recommended. I wish we had more time on this trip as it would have been good to explore Belfast more.
We set out along the Causeway Coastal Route with the aim of getting to Derry by the end of the day. Unfortunately the weather was not the best - fog and rain obscured a lot of the scenery but also added to the atmosphere. The Giant's Causeway was busy despite the bad weather (but it is Saturday on a Bank Holiday weekend). It was well worth walking the extra distance to the amphitheatre and we loved Dunserverick Castle. PG travelled well in the bad weather and really liked the country roads. The manual driving experience is well-suited to country lanes and side roads (rather than the city traffic of Dublin).
We've arrived in Derry and have walked the city walls. This is a beautiful town with a lot of history. We're staying at the Bishop's Gate Hotel which has been fabulous. I wish we had more time to explore this city.
