Malaga and the Costa del Sol

Writer's picture: classiccarwifeclassiccarwife

After leaving Granada, we drove through an impressive mountain range and down to the coast. Mr F had read a guide in our hotel and thought we should try a beach called 'Cantarrijan' on the eastern end of the Costa del Sol. There was free parking at the top and a bus for only a few Euros took you down to a beautiful cove for swimming and snorkelling. There were mostly locals on the beach which was a little stoney but we rented two sun-beds with comfy mattresses for only 12 Euros. What a great lifestyle! Clothing was optional and there was such a variety of people - couples, groups of friends, families....The craggy rocky headlands created a sense that you were tucked away from the world. Groups were cracking out their red wine before noon and sharing olives, laughing and chattering and having a great old time. There were a few restaurants behind the beach and I must give a HUGE shout-out to 'La Baretta' https://labarracacantarrijan.com/, who served us the most magnificent seafood platter ever! This is the beauty of having MoneyPenny. You definitely need a car to get to this place but it's worth it!

We cruised on to Malaga where I had had treated us to some luxury at the Hotel Gran Miramar https://www.granhotelmiramarmalaga.com/en/. Malaga was such an unexpected delight for us. It has a very beautiful old town, lots of art and culture, parks, live music and such a generally great vibe. We would definitely come back to this town.

We managed to get our laundry done at a brilliant place called Tinteria Laundry Boman https://lavadomagico.com/malaga/tintoreria-laundry-boman-luggage-storage-service-guardar-equipaje-locker-malaga-5022/ The owners were SO friendly and helpful. We dropped off a load of laundry at 10.30am and collected it at 2.00pm. Everything was beautifully washed, folded, sorted and presented. This only cost us 30 Euros for a same day service. Legends!!!

Meanwhile we visited a car museum....Haha Yes!!! Can you believe there is one in Malaga? Honestly they are everywhere. However, this one was actually REALLY good. This museum was beautifully curated providing the social context for the cars. It presents car design as an art and reflects what's happening in society. So the cars were displayed alongside the fashions of the time and the signage talked about who would have owned that type of car and why. This is probably the best car museum I have been to - and I've been to quite a few in my classic car wife life. DEFINITELY visit this one. https://museoautomovilmoda.com/

As we left Malaga we drove along the coast road via Marbella where we saw miles and miles of apartment complexes and development. We pushed on through this to our next destination on the Atlantic Coast of Spain!!
