MoneyPenny hits the Amalfi Coast & the Riviera - Folkestone to Reims & the Musee Automobile Reims

After almost three years, we have been reunited with our beloved MoneyPenny. Having flown from Australia to the UK, she had a few issues with the exhaust that Mr F needed to fix but she is running well :) Three MOTs since we last saw her thanks to COVID, she finally gets out. Today we started off on her next road trip (the last being in 2019).

We are on our way to the Amalfi Coast and will have three overnight stops along the way to break the journey. Early this morning, we headed off from the home of friends in Crawley at around 7.00am and drove to Le Shuttle in Folkestone to put MoneyPenny on the train through the channel tunnel. We've never done this before, but had booked a Flexipass ticket which allowed us to get on a train an hour earlier than we had booked. There were a LOT of fantastic cars on our train heading off to Le Mans Classic so Mr F made some new friends and MoneyPenny felt as though she was in good company. On Le Shuttle you stay in your car on the 35 minute journey then can get quickly onto the motorway and we took the A26 all the way to Reims for our overnight stop. We encountered quite heavy rain but MoneyPenny loved the motorway driving and capably overtook lots of lorries, following a lovely Ferrari California for much of the journey. It was great to stop off at one of the motorway service centres and enjoy a lovely fresh ham and cheese baguette. Yay! Viva la France!

Arriving in Reims, guess where we went?....a CAR MUSEUM!!!! There was a superb collection of French automobile history on display, covering cars from 1900 through to 1980s. The highlights for Mr F were the cars from the 1930s through to just post-war. There were a couple of magnificent Art-Deco-styled vehicles - Marques that Mr F had never heard of and the museum probably has many vehicles that are the last surviving examples of their type.

On booking accommodation for this trip it's all about the parking for MoneyPenny. Mr F is happy because the Novotel in Reims has a secure private parking area. Phew! Having had some wine and fabulous cheese in our room we are now off to explore the city on foot. Tomorrow we're heading to Chamonix so stay tuned!!
