Montepulciano to Ravello

We started out just before 10.00am from Montepulciano and wended our way back to the A1 through the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Our mission today was to get to Ravello on the Amalfi Coast. The motorway was great and once we hit Pompeii we headed up a steep windy road over the mountains and down the other side. You need to keep your wits about you. It's an exhausting drive with very narrow roads and passing traffic is a challenge. Oncoming traffic may come onto your side on the road at speed. We reached the outskirts of Ravello only to find that the road was closed due to a traffic accident....back up the hill we went winding our way and then took another road down to the coast road and up the hill to Ravello, adding at least another hour to our journey.

Ravello hangs on the edge of a cliff over the Mediterranean and there are no cars allowed within the town centre. So, what about the parking situation for MoneyPenny??? Our accommodation arranged for us to park her in a secure parking lot and the operators took us in a shuttle bus to the stop point just outside the town centre. We have stayed at the Villa Casale in a little apartment and the complex has a very beautiful pool. We have a sea view and this feels like a slice of heaven on earth. The Villa Rufulo and the Villa Cimbrone Gardens are well worth a visit if you are ever in Ravello. I've also found myself a very nice dress and there is a shop in the piazza that will make you some leather sandals to order in 15 minutes! Winner!!

On our final evening we've enjoyed our little garden patio and purchased some parma ham, fresh tomatoes, basil, cheese and some crusty bread with olive oil and balsamic. This is the life, listening to the the cicadas!

We've found that Ravello seems to be very popular for destination weddings with at least three taking place here this evening! One featured a Mariachi band and the reception was at Villa Cimbrone. Another had a very lovely Fiat 124 Spider as the wedding car and the third had taken over Villa Eva on the hilltop. All the best to the happy couples for an amazing life together!
