We really enjoyed our four nights in the apartment by the port in St Tropez. This is our third visit to St Tropez but our first staying in an apartment in town. It was fabulous and we can't wait to return next year!
We start the day with some coffee and a croissant then get a couple of fresh baguette sandwiches and some cool drinks and head for the beach each morning. We had left two surf towels, beach chairs, an umbrella, sun lotion and a beach bag in MoneyPenny when we last visited in 2019 and will do the same again for next year. We are ready to go! We eat our baguettes on the beach for lunch and head back to town at around 2-3pm in the afternoon. We ate the most amazing oysters near the markets by the port, we drank lots of rose and I am now completely stocked up on dresses for the Australian summer :)
The drive from St Tropez to Avignon took only a few hours but an extreme heatwave was starting to kick-in here and, our dear MoneyPenny still didn't want to provide us with any air-conditioning. We took the scenic road up through the hills via Grimaud and joined the Autoroute towards Marseilles the north to Avignon. There was nothing we could do about the aircon situation so just had to have the windows down and endure the sweat pouring down our backs, with regular stops at the service centres to get cool drinks. It reminded me of summer holidays in Australia during the 1970s when the average family car didn't have aircon. The cicadas were singing in the trees along the way and the hot air from outside barely provided any relief as it blasted through the open windows. It was too hot to have the roof down as the sun was absolutely scorching.
The good news is that MoneyPenny got us there safely and we settled into our hotel on the Place de L'Horloges. A shower, an air-conditioned hotel room and a cold beer (for Mr F) and we were as good as new. We briefly visited Avignon in 2017 (just for the day) and fell in love with the fun and vibrancy of the Avignon Festival so wanted to come back and experience more. We hope to soak in the performances and fun over the next day or so.
